“I’ve always been a rebel and, as a young girl, I was haunted by the fairy tale ‘The Red Shoes’, about a girl who wanted a pair of red shoes. She gets her way by a small and harmless deception, but she is punished by a dancing curse. The story ends when the exhausted, humiliated girl begs a woodcutter to chop her feet off so that she can rest – she is maimed simply for wanting a pair of red shoes. It’s a story that is designed to show women how they should behave – wanting pretty things is the sin of vanity, and dancing . . . well!! I have terrible feet – big, wide and bony – and finding shoes that are comfortable as well as smart has always been a problem. I long to wear ‘bad girl shoes’ – particularly red stilettos! I hate sensible footwear.” Kathleen Jones.
Wow, Kathleen, these are amazing. I’m quite tall so high heels have always been out of reach for me – tee hee.
