Review by Kevin Berry

Bloom is an engaging, well-written action-packed YA contemporary fantasy novel.  It tells the stories of two young people, Haven Kincaid and Colton Ross, whose lives are changed by their discovery of superhuman powers that they are struggling to understand and control, and who have both been touched by personal tragedy.  Each of them is taken in by a different group of people with like abilities but different aims.  Their separate stories proceed in an entertaining and well-structured manner, normally a chapter at a time which made the changes in point of view clear, before combining and racing to an exciting conclusion.  The characters are well-developed, believable, real and different, and the suspense in the story is a real page-turner.  I felt the story was well-paced with a pleasing mix of action, dialogue and description, with enough uncertainty to have me guessing until the end exactly how it would finish.  The book has obviously been edited to a high level and was a pleasure to read.  I would certainly look out for more in the series by the same author.
